OUR PHILOSOPHY
 |
We
oppose the use of violence as a means of control over others.
|
 |
We
support equality in relationships and the concept of helping women
assume power over their own lives. |
 |
We
strive toward becoming independent, community based groups in which
women are major policy and program decision-makers.
|
 |
We
must work toward ending racism, homophobia, anti-Semitism, classism,
and oppression of all traditionally silenced groups within the
battered women’s movement. These oppressions are perpetuated by the
same systems that profit by violence against women and their children
and cannot be separated from the overall mission of the Coalition for
the oppression of one woman is the oppression of all women.
|
 |
We
recognize and support efforts of other agencies and individuals in
addressing all issues that help to eliminate the oppression of women
and children and the generational cycle of abuse.

OUR MISSION
“to continue the efforts of the groundwork laid a little
more than 20 years ago - to work in the direction of a society where women
are protected, life is esteemed, home is sacred, fear is unknown and
domestic violence is unthinkable”. Looking For My Sister is committed to
developing and promoting efforts aimed at the elimination of domestic
violence through faith and by taking action.
OUR GOAL
Our goal is to promote awareness
by taking domestic violence facts to the streets and providing it to
women, girls and families who are in the dark or ignorant to the violent
behaviors surrounding domestic violence and to inform them of a system for
escape. We believe we can demand change, we can influence change, and we
will promote change!
Although there is no profile of
the women who will be battered, there is a well documented syndrome of
what happens once battering starts and Looking For My Sister seeks to be
the premier provider for women who are both survivors and/or victims of
domestic violence. We seek to make this experience affordable and
available for all women in the community. At a difficult time in their
lives, survivors and/or victims coming to Looking For My Sister for help
will be able to avoid the pressure of having to contact lots of different
agencies to get help which can be extremely stressful and ultimately cause
discouragement.
